GOD, this three lettered word, often written in upper case has probably been one of the most broached subjects in the history. Even then almost every strata of the society right from the intelligentsia to the masses find this domain so incumbent. Why is this topic so debated and conferred with almost the entire humanity divided into several cults and thinking on different lines, why all across the globe we have innumerable people claiming themselves as sentinels, why have there been millions of books written, thousands of sermons delivered and almost sixty million people flocking in the name of someone they have never seen, heard or met…is the entire world insane?
There has to be some force, some impetus that is causing the entire world to think regardless whether they believe or disbelieve its existence. The point is what is causing them to contemplate again and again. The world is not only divided into believers or atheist, in fact a vast majority even unaware of their own stance is agnostic. It is only time, situation and the surrounding that causes a tremendous variation in the general thinking. I am not commenting on the sanctity of any religious belief nor am I proving that the existing set of ideas of people in general is dogmatic or prejudiced, I just say what I perceive.
A deeper look in the subject proves that it something deeply embedded in our psyche. It is human nature to err and success and failure are just the practical aspects of day to day life. There has been a constant quest to prove one’s individual mettle and gain perpetual success. But often this race proves a palaver with a lot of stumbling blocks and thorns set in the path. Of course life is never a bed of roses. Eventually every man has to fight his circumstances and hardships. This brings us to the bottom line- we are waging a constant war with complication and hassles of life and longing to reach a joyous and contented state so that we can forever bask in its afterglow. But not everyone tries his level best to avert the plague and fight the scourge of life. This is why most of us are unwillingly defeated leaving us in despair and crestfallen. It was not the situation that was impossible, it was our faith in ourselves which had fallen.
Here comes the ironical part of the story. Giving your fullest also does not ensure victory all the time. Most of us are perspicacious enough to have felt that in our own chores of routine life. There are times when you are hell bent upon uprooting a problem but your indomitable courage after many a test of time starts to creak under the weight of cornering failure and its is then that you succumb and concede. You lose, although it is a complacent loss, still leaves you dejected and broken. That is the way of life.
So is there an existence of a superior power, someone above us who can wield unlimited control on all of us, so much that our whole hearted efforts are dwarfed even without a concrete reason. It is then when such eerie questions flood our mind, question our logic and scream loud that are we puppets in the hand of time and circumstances. Beaten again and again we tend to answer this question ourselves. Yes we are. But here a more intriguing question crops up. If yes, then who pulls the string?
So we are back to square one, right from where we started. Ruminating again, this process seems so inevitable and hard to ignore. Is it a result of some unintentional brainwashing and molding by our own society right from childhood? Okay, let us analyze in a different way. It has been deeply embedded in our thinking fabric that there exists someone perfect and almighty much superior to all living forms on earth and it is to this power, we bow our heads, believe and have faith. Now if I take you to a hypothetical world where I assure you and it is true that you are the superior most being the world with no one surpassing you in any respect. With such a condition existing if I ask you, “Do you believe in GOD” you would probably say “No” because there is no one better there to exercise any control on you. You are the GOD in that world.
So is our faith a result of mental subjugation, something instilled to the core. Are we forced to subdue our independent thinking and reason with the fear of being outcast? If it is so then it seems to be a part of worldwide, ever prevalent manipulations and ideological enslaving. It is proving a means for many to grind their own axe, the reason why there is a contradiction between the sanctity of the religions and worldwide religious divisions, conflicts and crusades. The good and the bad are juxtaposed but still not visible to many. It is time to cogitate and rethink. It is time to change…
